Description
This session will focus on the basic principles and practices involved in conducting an effective investigation. Specifically, we will explore which situations and circumstances might prompt an internal investigation; different methods and best practices for conducting an investigation; and the documentation principles that can be helpful in demonstrating a provider's reasonableness and commitment to resident safety.
Learner Objectives:
  1. Describe the key components of an effective investigation.
  2. Describe how to develop and implement effective practices for reducing the risk of an adverse event occurring and/or recurring.
  3. Describe methods for maintaining documentation to support the thoroughness of an investigation.

Nurse Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this educational session, participants will self-report a knowledge gain of the major components of incident investigations and how to implement effective practices for reducing the risk of an adverse event occurring and/or recurring.
