Description
In 2019 CMS introduced a new MDS draft, version 1.18.0. Not long after, the Public Health Emergency due to COVID-19 was declared, and the new assessment was placed on hold. On September 1, 2022, CMS released a new draft version 1.18.11 Comprehensive Item Set with an effective date of October 1, 2023. The final item sets for MDS 3.0 v.1.18.11 have now been released, and we are weeks away from the effective date. This session will look at the new version and provide hints for the facility and IDC team on final preparation to ensure success before October 1st.
Learner Objectives:
- Understand the changes and new items on the final item set of MDS 3.0 v.1.18.11.
- Analyze the potential implications for the new MDS version on the publicly reported Quality Initiatives and Five-Star.
- Apply the information to review procedures and systems at the facility level to ensure a smooth transition to the new MDS version and compliance with CMS guidelines.
Nurse Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this session, participants will self-report a gain in knowledge regarding the new MDS version 1.18.11 on the post-session evaluation.
