Falls account for one of the most frequently cited accident/incident related deficiencies accompanied by the highest scope and severity, as well as some of the highest litigation settlement dollars. This session will provide insight into fall prevention best practice interventions that address high risk areas for the LTC population.

Nurse Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this session, participants will self-report a knowledge gain of fall prevention best practice interventions that address high risk areas for the LTC population.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify key considerations for fall prevention related to dementia and applying effective interventions based on remaining cognitive abilities.
  2. Understand targeted interventions for common cognitive and psychosocial fall risk factors.
  3. Review targeted interventions for common geriatric deficit areas that contribute to fall risk.
  4. Determine appropriate interventions based on clinical assessment data, falls history trending and person-centered preferences and routines.
