Description

The November election provides an ideal time to ponder and ask the question what do changes in the composition of the state and federal governments mean for Michigan? This session will explore, analyze, and provide direction on the impact the election results will have on the Michigan political and economic fronts. The session will also discuss the current economic outlook. Is the nation on the verge of a recession? What does the current economic outlook mean for state revenues and the state budget? How has employment in Michigan changes since the pandemic, including changes in the nursing/long-term care sector?

Nurse Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this session, participants will self-report a knowledge gain of how nursing facilities will be impacted - both through reimbursement and regulatory oversight - depending on the outcomes of the November election and the projected economic outlook.

Learner Objectives:

  1. Examine the current political climate and how the election of 2024 could shape economic, regulatory, taxation, and budgetary policy.
  2. Review the economic outlook and how this could impact the state budget with potential implications for nursing facilities and long-term care.
  3. Discuss the current state labor market including how the level of employment has changed in health care and long-term care and nursing facilities.
