Virtual Workshop: 2024 MDS 3.0 Bootcamp, Navigating the Basics

This program will be held live on Zoom, and will also be available after November 8, 2024 for one year with CE for on-demand participation.

 

Understanding the MDS 3.0 is critical to all departments within the skilled nursing facility. This class will review the MDS 3.0 in detail from start to finish. A thorough review of each section of the MDS will be completed. The course reviews all components of the Minimum Data set, the rules governing it's completion and the management of the MDS process. The class is designed to follow a logical progression from the use of the MDS manual through the use of the completed MDS and its data including an explanation of the Care Area Assessments.

A must attend for new MDS nurses, anyone considering becoming a MDS nurse as well as any department within the SNF that works with the MDS.

Learner Objectives:

  1. Participants will discuss uses for the MDS 3.0 assessment.
  2. Participants will accurately identify the type of MDS 3.0 assessment required at each stage of the resident's stay.
  3. Participants will discuss successful methods to organize the MDS process.
  4. Participants will be able to discuss CMS coding definitions for all sections of the MDS document.
  5. Participants will discuss CMS definitions for Care Area Assessments.

Nurse Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this session, participants will verbalize an understanding of the MDS/RAI process, coding guidelines for each section, and be able to discuss how the MDS affects other programs such as Quality Measures, 5 Star, and reimbursement.

Continuing Education

RN: This program will provide participants the opportunity to earn up to 12 nurse contact hours. Health Care Association of Michigan is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

NHA: The Health Care Association of Michigan is a Certified Sponsor of continuing education with the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

CE Reporting:  HCAM will need 30 days after the event conclusion to compile and process all attendance data. Once the data is compiled, certificates will be available to access. Certificate questions should be directed to Mary Gettel.

Requirements of Participation:

  1. Attendance is being strictly monitored.
  2. Be sure you are entering and exiting sessions at the start and end of the session – if you miss more than 10 minutes because you arrived late or left early, you will lose partial credit. HCAM will issue partial credit by half hour attended. It is YOUR responsibility to follow the agenda and be on time!
  3. A post-test must be successfully completed with a passing score of 85% or higher in order to earn credit.
  4. The evaluation must be completed in order to earn your certificate of completion.
  5. The maximum number of credits that may be earned in one 24-hour period is limited to eight (8) credit hours. This includes both live and on-demand sessions.
  6. Attendees caught cheating or violating our attendance policies will not receive credit for the remainder of the event.
