Navigating Generational Differences in Staff

Description

The generation raised with the internet and social media (Gen Z) understands the importance of purpose and passion as much or more than previous generations; however, generational differences in the workplace can be a source of conflict when it comes to expectations, communication, and values. So, how can mangers of a different generation help them ignite their workplace motivation? This presentation will briefly review the science of generational differences in personality, motivation, and behavior. Next, we will discuss strategies for bridging generational gaps. Finally, we will explore ways to connect across generational differences and improve workplace satisfaction and productivity at the workplaces of audience members.

Nurse Learner Outcomes: After this session, participants will report a knowledge gain related to the causes and consequences of generational difference driven workplace conflict, workplace expectations, workplace communication, and overall workplace productivity on the post session evaluation.

Learner Objectives:

  1. Identify at least two generational differences that are particularly strong in Generation Z.
  2. Explain the primary causes of generational differences in personality, motivation, and behavior.
  3. Identify at least two strategies for bridging the gap between generational differences in workplace communication or expectations.
  4. Give examples of Gen Z relevant, workplace supports for enhancing motivation and engagement.
