Description
Managing younger residents with behavioral health diagnosis has become an increasing challenge. The CDC reports that adults age 31 - 64 is the fastest growing population in long term care. Caring for these individuals has become challenging, as many staff do not have the experience or training to be able to care for this population. This session will provide tools for caring for individuals with Behavioral Needs as well has how to manage behaviors using non pharmacological interventions.

- Understand the regulatory barriers that prohibit meeting the needs of the younger adult with behavioral issues.
- Describe how to assess and meet the younger population's need for age appropriate goals of care to include activities, life skills, pain management, sexuality and intimacy.
- Explore and review evidence-based approaches to deal with substance abuse disorders and how pain is affected.
- Discuss individual non-pharmacological care approaches in dealing with behaviors.
