The position of Health & Wellness Director or Director of Assisted Living within a senior living community is pivotal. These community leaders are tasked with coordinating care for increasingly medically and/or cognitively fragile residents; finding appropriate staffing despite high turnover rates; managing family, resident, employee satisfaction/communication; budget limitations; understanding and operating within state specific regulations while supporting resident safety and quality care. Two senior living nurse executives and a clinical risk manager explore key opportunities and challenges presented to community clinical leaders such as: complex resident needs; staffing challenges/turnover; resident decline and end of life issues; resident behavior challenges, community obligations and burnout prevention/retention strategies of this critical community and organizational role.
