2023 MDS Basics Virtual Workshop

This three-session virtual workshop is the perfect basic training session for new MDS staff. This workshop reviews the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) User's Manual, helping you to understand the RAI and required OBRA and PPS assessments; the intent, rationale, and coding requirements of each MDS item set; and care planning requirements.

* After the program concludes, this training will be available on-demand until July 21, 2024. On-demand education must be completed by July 21, 2024 to earn nursing contact hours.

LEARNER OUTCOMES

At the conclusion of this session, participants will:

  1. Self-report knowledge gain of the regulatory requirements for the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI)
  2. Self -report an intent to change practice by applying guidance in the RAI Users Manual

LEARNER OBJECTIVES

  1. List the required RAI assessments and associated completion deadlines
  2. Discuss the Care Area Assessment process
  3. Describe the difference between Section G and Section GG and the coding instructions for each section
  4. Articulate how to identify active diagnoses and code Section I
  5. Verbalize the process for conducting effective resident interviews

Final determination of contact hours will be published on the website.

RN: Nurse participants may earn up to 12 nurse education contact hours. On-demand education must be completed by July 21, 2024 to earn nursing contact hours. Health Care Association of Michigan is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

NHA: The Health Care Association of Michigan is a Certified Sponsor of continuing education with the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB).

  • This program has been approved for Continuing Education for 12 total participant hours by NAB/NCERS - approval #20240716-12-A95738-DL
  • NHA CE is not being offered for on-demand completion of this program.

CE Reporting:  HCAM will need 30 days after the event conclusion to compile and process all attendance data. Once the data is compiled, certificates will be available to access. Certificate questions should be directed to Mary Gettel. Session attendance for administrators will be reported to NAB using their NAB Registry ID. NAB Registry IDs MUST be submitted during the registration process.

Requirements of Participation:

  1. Conference evaluation is required.
    • This will be emailed to you at the conclusion of the event and must be completed within 72 hours.
  2. A post-test must be successfully completed with a passing score of 85% or higher in order to earn credit for the event.
  3. Be sure you are entering and exiting sessions at the start and end of the session – if you miss more than 10 minutes because you arrived late or left early, you will lose partial credit. HCAM will issue partial credit by full hour attended. It is YOUR responsibility to follow the agenda and be on time!
  4. Attendees caught cheating or violating our attendance policies will not receive credit for the event.
