2026 HCAM Webinar: Know It. Stop It. Communicate It.: A Practical Approach to C. auris & MDRO Prevention
Session Date: Tuesday, November 17, 2026
Session Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (UTC-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
This program will be held live on Zoom. Please see below for CE information. The session will be recorded for later access, though CE is only available for live participation.
What’s Coming In - and How Do We Stop It From Spreading?
Candida Auris (C. auris) and other multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) are an increasing concern across healthcare settings. This presentation takes a practical, nurse-focused look at how MDROs can enter a facility, how transmission can occur, and - most importantly - what facilities can do to stop the spread. Through practical examples and case-based scenarios, facilities will gain tools they can put into practice immediately to recognize risks, respond appropriately, and help protect residents, patients, and staff from the often-invisible spread of MDROs.
Nurse Learner Outcome: At the conclusion of this session, 80% of participants will self-report a knowledge gain of recognizing the increasing presence of C. auris and other MDROs within healthcare facilities.
Learner Objectives:
- Recognize patient, environmental, and healthcare-related risk factors associated with the introduction and transmission of C. auris and other MDROs.
- Describe common sources and routes through which C. auris and other MDROs may be introduced into healthcare facilities.
- Identify common MDROs, including C. auris, and describe their significance in healthcare settings.
Presented by the MDRO Containment Unit. The MDRO Containment team partners with healthcare facilities to identify and investigate cases, while also providing education and guidance to staff involved in these efforts. Their overarching goal is to reduce the spread of MDROs in Michigan’s healthcare settings.
